The Physical Therapy Program offers a wide variety of treatment modalities to assist patients in returning to their normal activity levels. These include:
Therapeutic Exercise
Individual exercise programs are critical to returning a person to
their normal lifestyle. These exercises are focused on returning normal
range of motion and strength to the involved area.
Whirlpool/Hydrocollator/Ice Packs
Moist heat or ice is often used in conjunction with exercises to help
decrease pain, decrease inflammation and for general relaxation.
Massage
Our trained staff understands how muscle tightness and trigger points
can create pain, limitations of motion of an involved joint, and alter
your independence with even normal home and work activities. The use
of various forms of massage can help eliminate these problems as well
as to help decrease swelling of an affected joint.
Paraffin baths
Use of paraffin wax as a healing mode on the hands can help relieve
pain associated with arthritis or after injury to this area.
Ultrasound
Ultrasound is the use of sound waves at a high frequency that when
absorbed by various tissues in the body produces a heat deep in muscles
and/or ligaments. This helps to increase circulation to the area,
increase flexibility of the muscles and allow improved results from
the exercises the therapist performs.
Electrical Stimulation
Electrical Stimulation is widely used in physical therapy as it provides
a variety of benefits including pain relief, a decrease in inflammation,
an increase in the strength of a particular muscle or muscle group,
and a decrease in muscle spasms.
Traction
Traction to the spine involves an external force causing a separation
of the vertebrae in either the neck or lower back. This is especially
effective reducing pain in the extremities which is a result of an
injury to the neck or back. In addition this traction offers a gentle
stretch to the muscles in the area decreasing muscle spasms and increasing
flexibility. Traction can be applied either manually by a therapist
or mechanically.
The Program is staffed by Licensed Physical Therapists, Physical Therapist Assistants and Physical Therapy Aides. Treatment plans are developed that are specific to each individual's needs.
To accommodate patients that work we offer 2 days (usually Monday and Thursday) for later appointments.
In addition, the Program offers a state-of-the-art fitness facility which allows patients the opportunity to continue an exercise regimen after the formal therapy has ended.
We offer a functional capacity evaluation and work hardening program.
We accept most insurance.
The Physical Therapy Center is open to any patient who has a physician prescription for services. For an appointment or more information, call physical therapy coordinator Jessica at 518-773-2508 OR 1-800-724-2900.
